The Nutrient Factor
VITAMIN C. Vitamin C is vital to the connective tissues in the body, specially for the layer where collagen is produced. It also helps repair aging skin. Topical Vitamin C can also prevent damage caused by free radicals, when used in conjunction with sunscreens.
VITAMIN A. Vitamin A, when used as a topical medication, stimulates collagen production and blood flow into the dermis. With Vitamin A, tissues are strengthened, making the dermis thicker. Topical creams containing Vitamin A, such as Derm A, can help improve the appearance of fine lines, as well as treat acne.
VITAMIN E. Known as a free radical antioxidant. Vitamin E can be taken orally, as well as applied topically. When applied on the skin, it helps prevent inflammation and skin damage caused by constant sun exposure. Vitamin E supplements, on the other hand, help reduce photodamage.
SELENIUM. Selenium attacks free radicals, thereby reducing inflammation and preventing sun damage, considered as a lifeguard’s best friend, selenium should be taken in doses of not more than 10o mcg. Excessive intake can be toxic and should be made under medical supervision.
